Lots of characters play a role in the tragedy of Macbeth. It seems that almost everyone in the play has some hand in the series of events that lead to its tragic ending. But of all the characters in the play, who is the guiltiest? Which one person is the most to blame for the deaths of Lady Macbeth and Macbeth? Why is that one person guiltier than any of the others?
I think the most guilty would be Macbeth himself, he felt very guilty after the murder of the king and by him seeing the ghost of Banquo shows that he feels bad about his death, and i think the person most responsible for the death of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth would be themselves, they drove themselves crazy and in the end couldn't take it anymore.

the guiltiest in my opionin is a tie between macbeth and lady macbeth. the one to really blame for their deaths is themselves. If they didn't think that the prophesy was right they could have writen their own path and not made theirs go along with the prophasy. So they chose their owne fate.
ReplyDelete~Kai Smith
I think that both Macbeth and Lady Macbeth are equal in blame. When they killed Duncan they never told anyone. if they had told anyone but them selfs, they would have been guilt free...
ReplyDelete-Negithekitty
To me it seems like the witches are the most guilty characters of this play because they gave Macbeth the prophecies which led him to kill Duncan and thus become the tyrannical king of Scotland and that inevitably led to him killing all of the people that stood in his way, the people that the witches told him would have a chance of taking his throne from him, such as Banquo and his son, and closer to the end, the family of Macduff.
ReplyDeleteJbreezey
ReplyDeletethere was no one charactor that was solely involved in the death of the main charactors. the story was like a domino affect. one crazy thought by lady macbeth led to a coruption, which led to a murdur and eventually to a tyranical ruler.
i feel that in this tragedy the ones to blame are the 3 witches because they planted the seed of greed and power into macbeezy's head and he wanted more than just the thane of cawdor. the death of lady macbeth was caused by herself. she couldnt release her guilt any other way.
ReplyDelete~Juan Valdez
While all of the characters play some hand in the tragic events of the play, I think that most of the blame can be placed on the witches. This is because before Macbeth hears the propechies, he is a good man and a hero in battle. However, after hearing the prophecies, Macbeth's character completely changes. Macbeth wants to fufill the prophecy, so he kills Duncan. Then he tries to prevent to second prophecy, so he kills Banquo. If Macbeth had not known about the prophecies, I don't think any of the murders would've happened. Thus, the blame can be placed on the witches because they told Macbeth about the propechies.
ReplyDeleterebels759
I believe that Lady Macbeth is the guiltiest of all the characters. I believe this because she "set off" or started a chain reaction of events (murders). It mainly started with her convincing Macbeth to kill King Duncan and then he started to "enjoy" killing which led to his blood lust. In the end she starts hillusionating the blood and i think thats her conscience reminding her of what she started.
ReplyDeletemjq16
I think out of all of this the guiltiest is Lady Macbeth because she is the one that oushed Macbeth into killing Duncan. With out this push he would of have never done this. That why in the end, she takes her own life because the guilt was to much to handle.
ReplyDelete-Darkwallce
I believe that Lady Macbeth is the quiltiest of them all. Her death is the result of her own actions she took at the beginning of the play (convincing Macbeth to murder Duncan). If she wouldn't have been so manipulative in trying to get Macbeth to kill Duncan so that he could be king, Macbeth may have never took that step. Therefore, he wouldn't have gotten that first taste of blood and that possibly could have prevented the killing spree he engaged in after the fact.
ReplyDelete-sunshine1721
I believe that Lady Macbeth is the guiltiest of them all since she was the one that gave the idea to Macbeth that he should murder Duncan. The person that is the most to blame for the deaths of Lady Macbeth and Macbeth are the witches because if they have not told them about the prophecies, Lady Macbeth wouldn't have had the idea in the first place to go on a killing-spree.
ReplyDeletechihiro93
I believe that Macbeth and ladt MAcbeth are the guiltiest in the play because of first killing Duncan and then belaming it on someone else pretty much adn then trying to cover it up and pretend they didnt know what happened reallt effects later on how lady macbeth dies. She is so gulity from all the kills her and later on judt Macbeth does finaly pushed here over the edge and she wanted the guilt to be over. Lady macbeth is more guilty than MAcbeth becasue she pushed him to do the frist killing and he just kept going from there leading on to his own death
ReplyDelete~neverhide101
I agree with the above posted, they state that Macbeth is the most guilty for his death. This is because when he had a choice to do something against basic morality he did it with no problems. He killed multiple charaters and at the end of the play his character default caused people to turn on him and kill him.
ReplyDelete-Bull3t12
I think that Lady Macbeth is the guiltiest because shes the one who actually feels remorse and pain for the people that Macbeth has murdered. There was also one point in the story where Lady Macbeth asked Macbeth to stop killing. It wasnt necessary anymore. But Macbeth didnt feel guilt. He felt adrenaline and the thirst for more blood. He was guilty at first but then he became numb to the feeling. I think they were both at fault because Lady Macbeth encouraged Macbeth to murder Duncan. But Macbeth began taking it too far and his killing became unnecessary. I agree with Kai Smith and they chose their own fate.
ReplyDelete-Brine Warrior
I think that the witches are the ones that should feel the most guilty in this situation. considering if they were never in the forest when Macbeth and Banquo were their all of the murders would of never happened. They were the ones who put it in Macbeths head that he will become king, it was major inception and for that I would think that they should fell the most guitly.
ReplyDelete-Ksee Mattein
i believe the guiltiest in the play is lady macbeth. she was supposedly the tough one between the two of them. but in the end she ended up killing her self. they both lead themselves to their deaths. they ahve equal blame for it.
ReplyDelete-lorraine
i think That lady MacBeth was themaster mind behind all of this. her plans and incouragment lead to the death of MacBeth. She was teh one to perswaid MacBeth in the first place and you can tell this by MacBeths actions after Duncan was killed
ReplyDeleteK*P
I believe Lady Macbeth would be the guiltiest. She was the one who convinced Macbeth to kill Duncan to get him out of the way. After that she was always the one to say get over it untill she went crazy with guilt. Either that or the witches are the guiltiest because they are the ones who gave Macbeth the prophecies in the first place. If Macbeth was not told he would be king by the witches, he and Lady Macbeth would have never thought of killing Duncan. Well, they might have. Who knows.
ReplyDelete- Raye
I think that Lady Mcabeth is guilty of everything because she was the one who made Macbeth kill Duncan and made him a murder because he started killling with no purpose and thats when Macbeth lost control and that lead him to his death.
ReplyDeleteCAPO
To me, both Macbeth and Lady Macbeth are the ones to blame most for their deaths. They felt so guilty about not only Duncans deaths, but also Banquo's and Macduff's son that it led to their destruction. one person can handle only so much guilt on their conscience before they go insane and we saw that with Lady Macbeth. She felt guilty for turning her husband into a tyrant and for being a part of Duncan's murder that it caught up with her in the end and she died. although i also agree with Ksee Mattein. If the witches had not decided to tell Macbeth that he shall be king one day none of these murders aould have happened. ~caroleva
ReplyDeleteI think not only Macbeth himself is but also Lady Macbeth and the 3 witches. The witches started it all when they told Macbeth the prophecy and from there Lady Macbeth pushed it on Macbeth and kept forcing him to not 'be a coward' and that's what triggered him. After he killed Duncan he realized how good it felt to have what he wanted and not get caught. Lady Macbeth thought it was a miracle having her husband stand up for himself and do something that benefited both her and him. In the end though Macbeth was the only one left to blame after his wife died, he could of stopped it but instead he was way over his hear by then and needed that power knowing he was invincible.
ReplyDelete-Renee04
I think the people most responsible and should be the guiltiest are the witches. the witches should have never even opened their mouths and just kept the prophesies to themselves. The only reason why they are in this story is to tell the destinies. But if they hadn’t told Macbeth his destiny he would have become the thane of Cawdor and continued on living with some power just not as much power as the king holds. If the witches hadn’t told Banquo his children's fate, Macbeth wouldn’t have been jealous and wanted the thrown for himself. The witches just made everything worse for him because he got to be king but he got there in a bad way and then died shortly after. He also lost his wife and killed his friend and some other people. Then the witches made Macbeth believe that he was like some super human and wouldn’t be killed and that’s totally not the case. They got his hopes up and pretty much killed Macbeth themselves by telling him his fate. I don’t comprehend why they told him anything anyway because they didn’t gain something from it. They just saw him kill people then him get killed himself. The witches caused this whole book to happen and they should feel so guilty and learn to keep their mouths shut.
ReplyDelete-branirach
I think that lady macbeth is the most guilty because of her different perspectives on how the murder for macbeths power hungery chaos, she was more of the pusher in the beginning and did not really care as to what happened to the people, then as she was coming to more of her senses she was going insane for not dealing with her and macbeths actions. Also when she was more to the point of wanting nothing to do with the killings she was pushed aside as macbeth took the bigger role, and before the ending she was thinking of the blood on her hand that wouldnt go away, so from all her guilt she took her own life.
ReplyDelete-Munchy21
I would have to say that Lady Macbeth is the guiltiest. She started this whole ordeal by questioning Macbeth’s manliness and plants seeds in his head on what to do. By doing this she creates a monster out of him and everything goes downhill from there. Not only is she responsible for Macbeths death but she is even responsible for her own. This is due to her having a load of guilt in her and not letting it out until it kills her eventually. So overall, it started with Lady Macbeth and the ending is caused by what she has done and created.
ReplyDelete-Riorancho
Macbeth and lady Macbeth are both the guiltiest because they were always coming up with away to cover somthing up and they bothed kept antagonizing one another to do another thing and they both ended up dying fore it
ReplyDelete-king
No one forced Macbeth to do the things that he did, they might have told him something that led him to the things that he did, but Macbeth picked up the blade, Macbeth stabbed Duncan, not the witches and not Lady Macbeth. Everyone needs to take responsibility for their actions and not expect others to do that for them.
ReplyDelete-Rielly Kelly
to negithekitty that statement is not exactally true because then anyone who they told would feel the guilt as well.and the need to talk would go around untill everyone in the world knew and was filled with this guilt that they know who killed the king and never did anything about it.
ReplyDelete~Cataru
I think Lady Macbeth is the guiltist because she convinces Macbeth to kill others. once he starts to kill he can not stop as he says in the book.
ReplyDelete-bugg
i think that Macbeth is the guiltiest because after the witches gave him the prophecies he became a killing machine. i think that Lady Macbeth and macbeth are responsible for there own deaths because killing the people made them go insane.
ReplyDelete-Llama Z
there is no one to truly blame for anything. there was a bit of meadling with the witches, macbeth got greedy with power. so everyone was to blame for a little bit of every part.

ReplyDeletei agree with what you believe but your forgetting to add on to your idea not only did they cover everything up they comitted the crim in the first place it's they may not have feltr guilty in the begging but in the end theyre guilt drove them crazy. Lady Macbeth and Macbeth were the ones who took advantage of the prophecy and in the end died. Juan Valdez i find it hard to believe it was the witches fault they were just playing their part in the whole tale. They didnt really cause any fault in this play all they did was tell the truth.
Missbell105
i think it's Macbeth's dumb fault for doing everything he did. It's his fault he died and it's lady Macbeth's fault that she died to. They planned their own fate by making the choices they did
ReplyDeleteMurbs
Macbeth is the most guilty for the reason that he murdered the most people and for reasons that are just not good enough. He murdered innocent people which in my opinion is the most horrific. He was responsible for the death of Lady Macbeth because he killed her son and allowed her to feel depressed because she was surrounded by death and haunted by a murderer. she killed herself because she could not go on in the world, and it was solely Macbeth's fault. Macduff killed Macbeth but it was called for because Macbeth killed numerous innocent people. Macduff was in the right to kill Macbeth.
ReplyDelete-funnybunny
everyone contributes to what goes on. i dont believe that there is one person is responsible for everything and how everytthing plays out.
ReplyDeleteMcLovin <3
I would have to say that Macbeth is guiltiest for what happened in the play. He was the one that started the 'series of unfortunate events' that eventually lead to the death of both him and his wife. His first killings were to blame for the downward spiral of the characters.
ReplyDelete-KottonmouthKing
I believe that overall Lady Macbeth is the most at fault because she is the one who told Macbeth he should kill Duncan which got his killing spree started and ended up killing them both. I think that Macbeth felt the guiltiest at first after he killed Duncan but then started to enjoy killing people so he did it out of bloodlust. So alltogether I believe Lady Macbeth is the cause of all the killings and the death of herself and Macbeth.
ReplyDeleteI think that Macbeth and Lady Macbeth are both to blame, they were both doing things thats they knew was wrong. I think that Lady Macbeth is the guiliest because she started this whole ordeal bu asking all the questions and questioning Macbeth's doings
ReplyDeleteCRebel
lady macbeth and macbeth are both guilty and to be blamed. their own actions and thoughts are what got then dead in the end. it all started with lady macbeth manipulating macbeth and making him want to do it. and macbeth carried out what she said to do. it was both of their doings.
ReplyDeleteBill
i think that the witches are to blame for messing with macbeth
ReplyDeletetunerslug
I think that Macbeth and Lady Macbeth are tied for the guiltiest character in the play. I also think that they are responsible for eachothers deaths aswell. If Macbeth would have never heard the prophecies he never would have gone power hungry killing Duncan, Banquo, and Macduff's wife and children. As for Lady Macbeth, i think that she has gone insane from all of the past events that is had let her to her suicide.

I believe that the witches are most to blame for the death of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth because if the witches wouldn't have told Macbeth that he was to be king he wouldn't have been power hungry making Lady Macbeth power hungry. Which in the end lead to both become insane and in result of that both dying.

i think that the witches are to blame for the death of macbeth for telling him that it was his fate to be killed at the hands of another
ReplyDelete-hondo
Lady Macbeth is responsible for the death of several characters in this play. Having manipulated Macbeth into following her desires, she in-turn caused a chain-reaction of murders and suicides throughout the remainder of the story. For example: in the beginning of this play, Macbeth understands his duty as a nobleman to protect King Duncan; he feels that killing the king he should have protected would be unjust and disloyal. Lady Macbeth, however, believes that the royalty gained would over power the man/men lost. Once she convinced Macbeth to kill Duncan, she was then the reason for several other deaths, such as: the death of Duncan's two chamberlains, the slaughter of Banquo, Lady Macduff and her son, as well as the death of several soldiers in the final battle to overthrow Macbeth and return the throne to the heir of Duncan: Malcolm. Overall, Lady Macbeth caused Macbeth to start a chain-reaction of murders; therefore, she is the guiltiest character in this play.
ReplyDelete-KAK1158
Lady Macbeth and Macbeth are the major characters for the down fall to this tale. Macbeth hears a prophecy and Lady Macbeth dogs him into making come true in the bad way. With fate against Macbeth and Lady Macbeth they go insane and die a painful death like what happens in most tragedies.

ReplyDeleteThe person who is the most guiltiest of them all i would say is lady macbeth. she started this whole chain of killing. It was her idea to kill Duncan and frame it on the servants. Macbeth didn't want to but was manipulated into it by her. She put the idea in his head that he has to get rid of everyone who is in his way. Macbeth deeply desired to be king and was willing to do anything, there for Lady Macbeth sought the perfect oppertunity to persuade him at his weakest point. Lady Macbeth made her choices and went insane, her punishment. Macbeth probably didn't care too much because he was sick of being put down by herf and had so much guilt. When he first killed Duncan he asked to be killed instaed of him, wished he could take it back and be the one who will never wake. He got what he asked for but by revenge, Macduff killed him out of hate and revenge because he was so made that Macbeth killed his family for the same reason, which was unnecessary.
ReplyDelete~goobies:)
Alright, once again I'm gonna have to agree with ~Kai Smith. I believe that the blame could belong to both Macbeth and Lady Macbeth. First, Macbeth learned the prophecy and had his mind set on becoming king, knowing that the only way to do so was you end several lives. Lady Macbeth set flame to the fire of murder, betrayal, and insanity, by testing Macbeth's true strength by degrading him, calling him weak, saying he wasnt a man, and this simply made Macbeth more and more determined to follow through with the murders. The guilt, belonging to both of them, tormented their hearts and devoured their souls until they were lost in a dark forest of insanity.
ReplyDeleteend_samsara
dinasour makes a good point by saying it is the witches fualt because they told macbeth about the prophecies which made him power hungry.
ReplyDelete-Llama Z
i still agree with llama Z on this if the witches didnt say anything macbeth wouldn't have gotten ideas
ReplyDeletetunerslug
i also think that it was the witches fault because they planted the seed for everything to happen.

I think that the witches and Macbeth have the blame to share because the witches planted the seed but MacBeth overreacted and just accepted his fate.
