In this play, guilt is seen through imaginary blood on hands, insomnia, sleepwalking, hallucinations, and obsession. Does feeling guilt suggest that there is still some morality left within Macbeth and Lady Macbeth? Are the ways in which Macbeth and Lady Macbeth act, based on their guilt, the ways in which we still see people expressing guilt today? Is it possible to lead a completely moral life and never feel guilt?
I believe that there is a littl morality even if its subconcius, they may not show it but seeing hallcinations and sleep walking shows somewhere they feel guilty, yet modern day i feel that people dont show the same way of guilt, i think they just keep to themselves if they are guilty about something. I see it in people everyday, people just sitting in silence with their head down, that to me screams guilt or depression

In my opinion Macebth and Lady Macbeth did have some morality left within them but the way they chose to ignore it and try to hide their guilt made it seem like they had none left. No matter how much guilt someone has they can be either really good or really bad at hiding it but that doesn not mean you can lead a completely moral life and NEVER feel guilty. It's an emtion humans have.
ReplyDeleteRenee04
i think that there is still some morality within macbeth and lady macbeth because you cant have one wothout the other. morals are a persons sense of right and wrong and guilt is the fealing of regret for doing somthing wrong. if a person has no marals they wouldnt feel guilt because they wouldnt know that what they did was wrond and would not regret it. the same thing applies the other way around. if a person is feeling guilty that shows that they have some morality because they know that whatever it is was bad. we see that in macbeth because he feels guilt for killing duncan because he knew it was a bad thing to do. so macbeth has morality even if it appears that he doesnt follow them. Lady macbeth has them to but it is a little harder to notice because at first it seems as if she didnt care as if she had no morality at all. but later in the play she too begins to feel guilty showing the presence of morality.

I really believe with what Shred Gnar says. it is only human to try to burry your guilt and try to hide it but we do know deep down we can still feel it.

ReplyDeletei dont think its a matter of them hiding their emotion because it came out one way or another, in many different ways also, such as the sleep talking and her seeing blood on her hands even though she never actually had blood on her hands.

Based on guilt the macB's grow more and more uncomfortable as the story goes on. the guilt clouds their thinking and removes all confidence and swaggar from lady Mc B
ReplyDeleteJbreezey
Of course that the guilt they feel suggests that they have morality still left in them. The way people express their guilt nowadays is sometimes going to church and repenting; otherwise, most people don’t reach out and confess what they do. I don’t think it’s possible to lead a moral life without ever feeling guilt though. It’s just the way humans function.
ReplyDelete-chihiro93
every one is guilty of something, wheather its murdering someone to cheating on a test back in 2nd grade... even the straight A kids are guilty of something...
ReplyDelete-Negithekitty
they show the guilt even if they dont mean to. sleepwalking, macbeth seeing the bloddy daggar, and so on are all ways of revealoing the guilt both of them have.i dont think it is possible to live your life the way they did without feeling any guilkt but they do still have mortality left in them no matter what.
ReplyDelete-lorraine
Having guilt can show that there are some moratlity and some sane things left in their minds i think, but overall from all of there steps of becoming more insane and hallusinations there was very low mortality. I think that both lady macbeth and macbeth showed their true sides later on, and they did show some things that people do today that can relate to guilt and not greifing in the right matter. I think that maybe some people in life can live with no guilt but most of the people have giult somewhere down the road.

I agree with Renee04 that Macbeth and Lady Macbeth attempt to hide their guilt throughout the story. Macbeth and Lady Macbeth try to put on a false appearance that they feel no remorse for what they have done. However, it becomes obvious that this is false when the two characters are in a subconsious state. For example, while Lady Macbeth is sleep walking, she confesses all of her guilt and how she cannot wipe the blood off her hands. Macbeth also has hallucinations of the dagger and the ghost of Banquo

I do believe that guilt, based on a person morals, could led to insomnia, sleep walking, and obssesions. Though I don't think it'll led to visions. Though some people rarely feel guilt because of they will sometimes make moral justification of bending their morals to serve their purpose. Some people don't really care if they stole, killed, or anything else.

ReplyDeleteI must say that i completely agree with you. Nobody is innocent. Even of the thoughts they think could still make them have guilt. They could have personal guilt, worldly guilt, mental guilt, etc. I do believe however that it you can and cannot live a moral life without guilt. I believe that smaller children would not understand what guilt is therefore they are living a moral life without guilt. But once you lose some of you innocence as you get older you begin feeling guilt.

no we feel guilt for others ever heard of sympathy
ReplyDeletenow morally i could be considered something different, but completly guilt free life. I think that is'nt possible

ReplyDeleteBut either way in the play they both tried to put it upon other people. Like when they killed Duncan they framed the 2 guards and with Banquo, Macbeth hired other people to do his work. But either way you do have a point because of that extended metaphor that they did have blood on their hands. Metaphorically
-Renee04
Because Macbeth and Lady Macbeth show these signs of guilt, it shows that they still have some sense of morality left in them, even if it is very small and not noticeable on the outside. People express their guilt today in similar ways as Macbeth and Lady Macbeth do, when someone is guilty of something and doesn't want anybody to know about it, you would see them pacing or maybe sleepwalking or a lot of the time you would see a person talking to themselves, which of course in this day and age would be viewed as insanity, which guilt is a main cause of. It is possible, but highly unlikely to lead a completely guilt free life, everyone is guilty about something in their life because everyone, even the people we consider as bad people, have some kind of morals and sometimes people break those morals, but they don't realize what they had done until later in life.
ReplyDelete~rebelball61
I think that they arnt moral because of their actions but by them murdering those people just because they feel guilt about killing doesnt make them moral again. All this tells me is that they know what they did was wrong but they arnt willing to stop for anything. If they would have had an oppurtunity to kill again they definitly would have done it. By them seeing things and sleep walking they are acknologing what they are doing is wrong from a moral stand point. I think people modern day express guilt differently because now days nobody wants other people to know if they are feeling guilty about something. I also dont believe that it is possible to lead a complitly moral life but as long as you notice ur faults and try to fix them as best you can.

ReplyDeleteit's like you want a free cookie and your mom says you cant have it because it'll spoil your appitite. you take it anyways. a teenager will feel bad because thats one less cookie for the little kids... but a child might take 1-4... and not feel bad...

I think that because Macbeth and Lady Macbeth do suffer from guilt that it shows that there is still immortality in them. The ways Macbeth and Lady Macbeth act at times are based on guilt. You see it more with Lady Macbeth in how her personality changed after they murdered Duncan. Lady Macbeth was quitter and didn't give orders to Macbeth anymore. instead she sat quietly while her husband continued to kill. with people and guilt today everyones different. Some people get to a point where they feel so guilty that they come clean and tell the truth. whereas others keep their guilt bottled up inside until it drives them insane. some people try to forget about the guilt and just push it to a dusty corner of their memory and try not to think about it. guilt affects people in differet ways. i think that it would be very hard to live a completly guilt free life because theres always something that someone will do that will make them feel bad about themselves or their actions. ~caroleva

ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you guys. Guilt is just another emotion that all human beings feel at some point in their life. And obviously this is due to their own actions that they must not be proud of. But everyone deals with their emotions differently, it depends on how strong the emotion is and how often that person feels it. Some people can't stand the feeling of guilt and will completely break down and admit what they are feeling guilty about. Others may not care at all and can ignore the feeling of guilt. I guess it all depends on the kind of person you are
-sunshine1721
First, I just want to comment on the first part of this. That is, that Macbeth and Lady Macbeth, because they are feeling guilt, are still moral. My answer to this is no. I don't think this makes them moral per say. Maybe in Lady Macbeth because she truely feels guilt. Macbeth, on the other hand, has just gone off the deep end.
ReplyDelete-KottonmouthKing
the felling of gult suggest that macbeth and his wife still have some morality in them beacause if they didnt they would have that feeling. Guilt usually associates with regret so if thats the feeling he is having then maybe he also regrets killing duncan and starting this whole thing. But leading a completely moral life and ne er feeling guilt is impossible. Maybe you wont kill somebody but you might do something wrong or say something to somebody and that would make you feel a little guilty. It just depends on the person.
ReplyDelete-lady macbeth!:)
i think that means that the characters cantbe completely crazy because of the fact that they're still human
ReplyDeletetunerslug
i believe that lady macbeth and macbeth both have a great amount of morality in themselves but they just like neglecting the fact that what they are doing is wrong.
ReplyDeleteMcLovin <3
i feel as though some people can go through life without feeling any remorse for what they have done in their past. people with no morals can often get away with the wrong in their life because without morals there is no need for guilt. i feel that macbeth lost his sence of right and wrong after the power had ovewrcome him. i believe he did at one point have morals and felt guilt but after he became mad with power he kinda lost his mind and only thought about killing.
ReplyDelete-voltage
i believe that you have to feel quilt in your life at somepoint. i think Macbeth showing guilt shows that he could have some morality left but chooses to keep killing because of the prophecies.
ReplyDelete-Llama Z
I believe that because Macbeth and Lady Macbeth are feeling guilt that there is some morality still left in them. I think that the ways Macbeth and Lady Macbeth react and express guilt are the ways people today express guilt. When someone is feeling guilt today they often have trouble sleeping or start hallucinating. I do not think it is possible to live a moral life but never feel guilt. In my opinion if you cant feel guilt then you dont have morals.
ReplyDelete-Chocolate Rain
it is not possible to live your life with out ever feeling guilt. if you do something wrong like pulling a mean prank on a sibling or friend, at some point after you would have that thought like oh no do you think they are ok?! its just not possible.
ReplyDelete-bugg
I feel like the two characters did have some moratily left when they felt guilty, however, just ignoring that feeling and to continue doing the wrong just put them farther in the hole and made them look even worse. No person can go through their entire life without feeling some sort of guilt. if they say they do then that means they cant really say they have morals.
ReplyDeleteBill
I think that if you lived a completely moral life you could not feel guilt only because you've done nothing wrong to be gulity about. Unless not giving to charity or the homeless is in play, if so then you could definetly feel guilt even if you were completely moral just because others around you have less.
ReplyDelete-Usernameunkown
gulit is what you make of it. some people can murder and never feel a thing, in fact that is the reason why some murder. others will step on a bug and cry.

i think since they didn't listen to there guilt that they have no morality left in them
ReplyDeleteMurbs
I feel that there is alot of places through out the book, that you can see guilt. You can see the guilt with Macbeth and Lady Macbeth by the way the express there personiality. I have to agree with BUGG- that it is not possible to live your life with out ever feeling guilt. You can feel you have done something wrong like pranking someone and then you feel guilt afterwards!!
ReplyDeleteCRebel
Yes the ways Macbeth and Lady Macbeth feel theyre guild shows that they have some moral fiber in their bodys but Macbeth pushes away his guilt and in the end he never actually feels his real guilt.Yes the ways we see lady Macbeth exspress her guilt is something a person in modern day life would do. We hear of sleep walking coming from people today all the time and i would not be surprised if some people that are in prison for murders would sleep walk but most just eat. Some people also commit suicide for a crime they feel guilty for or if they think it is wrong for who they are also another form of guilt. No i do not believe that it is possible for anyone to lead a guilt free life how could you? no one in this world is perfect and the only way to be guilt free is to be flaw free and there fore there is no such thing.
ReplyDeleteMissbell105
i feel that imagination takes almost as much part as killing in this play. this play shows that well. guilt fuels imagintaion. imaginatoin runs and creates all these possible outcomes all these possible endings to one story and that is where everything falls apart. one story has to have one ending.
ReplyDeleteMcLovin <3
in a sense, yes. feeling guilt just shows that someone does feel bad even if what they did was so horrible that it seems hard to believe. what one feels at the time of their bad deed does not compare to the guilt they may feel afterwards. people are not themselves when it comes to times like these. anger, revenge, love, etc are very powerful and can change a person for a short while and allow them to commmit crimes or just do something hurtful. it does not chnange the fact that they feel guilty, and it doesnt make them inhumane.
ReplyDelete-funnybunny
Macbeth chooses to ignore the last of his morality and keeps on his killing spree. He states when he kills Duncan that he felt guilty. The reason for their probelms i would assume are from fuilt. Now a days when people feel guilt, they tend to do those things, or not eat etc. Everyone has different reactions to guilt but i put their probelms in that catergory. It is not possiable to liuke a completely moral life with no guilt. The people who act like they don't care, are selfish and respond negativly are doing that because they are guilty of something. They put up a wall so that no one sees that because they want to appear strong.
